RUNNING WITH A DOG |
![]() |
This is probably one of the safest ways to run. Most people will not mess with a dog. |
Make sure your dog has been through an obedience course or is trianed to respond to the following commands: "sit", "stay", "heel", "come", etc. |
Make sure the dog has been to the vet prior to staring a running program. |
Get the dog into shape before you start running with it. Just like humans, start with a waliking/running mix of short distances. Take the time to work the dog up to the distance/speed at which you train. |

If you are taking the dog on long runs, make sure you bring water for the pooch. I am not sure if rover should drink Gatorade, Powerade or any of those drinks. |
View the terrain you are running. If it's urban, watch for glass chips, twigs, or anything that can get stuck in the dogs paws as well as things that will distract him like disgarded food. |
KEEP THE DOG ON A LEASH!! |
Dogs, like people, should not run when they are too young. For dogs, they should be a minimum of 2 years old (people years) to start running. |
