RUNNING
THE GREATEST SPORT IN THE WORLD
Here's why......
To become a great competitor, running has become a part of every major sport: football, baseball, soccer, tennis, boxing, NASCAR, etc. To be a top runner, the opposite is not true.
Running is the only sport that can be done and taken ANYWHERE.
In running, there are no timeouts. You cannot be saved by the bell.If you are injured, the race continues without you....sorry. Better luck next time.
In running, there are no bench-clearing brawls.Went to a baseball game and a hockey fight broke out.
In running there are no rules. OK, maybe one: stay on the course. Unlike some sports that have a rule book thicker than some telephone books.
In running there are no referees. No one to influence the outcome of the competition but yourself.
In running, there are no restrictive fields, diamonds, rinks, parks, etc.
In running there's no special equipment. Kenyans, the fastest runners in the world, start out running barefoot.
In running there's no blaming the other team. There are no teams. You accept sole responsibility for your performance and the outcome.
In running there's no silly celebrations.....Enough said!!
In running there are no week-end wanna-be's. Ask an ER physician, they will tell you who the wanna-be's are.
In running participants pay and spectators are free. Wouldn't that be great if the same was true for NASCAR, football, baseball, golf, soccer, hockey, etc.
In running there's no booing. I've been running since 1987 and have never been booed. Quite the contrary. People will clap for you when you finish. No matter where you finish!!
In running there's no one winner (with so many age groups) and no losers (crossing the finish line makes you a winner).
In running there's no substitutions. You finish what you started.
Running is a year-round sport.
Runner's can talk the talk because we walk the walk...actually we run the run. Unlike sports-talk people.
You do not need to be a card-carrying member of some organization like golfers, NASCAR, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, etc to compete against the best in the world. Simply pay your entry fee and run against the best.
Along these same lines, name another sport in the world where a first-time participant can compete against the best in the world in the same event. No other sport except RUNNING !!!
