UNPRETENTIOUS

I had the good fortune of marrying one of Jack’s daughters and remember the first time meeting the family. Mary’s sisters were funny and her mother was outgoing. I must admit I was always a little afraid of her brother. However, out of all the initial impressions I don’t really remember Jack. But over the years Mary and I have been together, his kindness and generosity has been something that I always come back to. “Do you have time to play golf? How’s your job? Do you need any help around the house?” Those are the kinds of things that he would ask me but always away from the group so as not to draw attention. I don’t believe that I ever saw him try to take advantage of a situation or truly be rude to another person (I must admit that I never went car shopping with him.). I guess that if you can live your life that way and leave those types of imprints on other people, then you have lived a very rewarding life.
