Perm situated in the Ural region of Russia is normally covered in snow and ice for 7 months of the year at times the temp can be as low as minus 35 and on occasions even lower than that (A BIT NIPPY THEN) The city has over 1 million people, and we have  many friends there we visit several times a year, the hospitality and culture is wonderful. Each year there is an ice sculpture competition which is international and many people from different countries attend and compete against each other, the river Kama is the main water way, during the summer and winter this city is a lovely place to visit with much culture, ballet, theatrical events, etc

THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE ICE SCULPTURES THROUGHOUT THE CITY, THE KAMA RIVER IS FROZEN OVER IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT PICTURE. PERM IS A VERY LARGE INDUSTRIAL CITY THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY CLOSED TO ALL AND ANY FOREIGN VISITORS, BUT NOW OPEN TO TRAVELLERS.

The ice sculptures have degraded considerably as the temperatures are increasing and causing them to melt. The best ice sculpures are in Gorky park and that is also where the international competitions take place. There are many sculptures throughout the city of Perm in all manner of places. The snow and ice would cause many western cities to grind to a halt, but in Perm its normal every day life as usual.
