His memberships included: National Medical Association, Buffalo Medical Alliance, New York State Medical Association, American Medical Association. Dr. Scruggs was also founder of the Michigan Ave YMCA in 1923, the first black person to serve on the Board of Directors of a Metropolitan YMCA in the US, a founder of the Buffalo Urban League in 1927. Dr. Scruggs practiced medicine for over 60 yrs and delivered 800 babies. Dr. Scruggs was the first Black School Health Physician in the Buffalo and Erie county System (1924-1945). |
