First before I start any explanations about Seti I will have to explain who is who.in the 19th Dynasty .
Ramses I (1307 - 1306BC) The beginning of the 19th Dynasty Seti I (1306 - 1290BC) Ramses' son. Ramses II (1290 - 1224BC) Who is spoken of in the film is Seti's son. He is thought to have been the pharaoh who was involved with Moses and is supposed to have became a victim of the real Ten Plagues of Egypt although Egyptian history says nothing about it. |

I have already explained about the ending of the 18th Dynasty and about Ankhnaten in the earlier page about that pharaoh. If you have not read this you will find it here:
After Tutankhamen took over from his father Ankhanaten he reigned as a child king until his untimely death. Egypt was for a time run by Ay - Tut's vizier who probably was involved in his murder and then generals from the army. Horemheb ("Horus is in Festival") was the last of the 18th Dynasty Pharaohs and he then passed the crown onto one of his generals Ramses ("Son of Ra") who began the 19th Dynasty. Ramses lasted only a couple of years himself and it was left of his son Seti to sort out the mess left by the later kings of the 18th Dynasty - and what a mess!

Seti was the second pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty. He is known to have been a great builder, he put up loads of temples, and a great soldier, he fought to regain the control of the countries round the country of Egypt which Akhenaten had lost during his disastrous run into monotheism. He reigned for many years - 14 at least. the great man certainly wasn't killed by his mistress, or anyone else for that matter, he died of old age (middle age in modern terms) tired out after all his hard work. His tomb in the Valley of the Kings is one of the most beautiful to be found there although it is not accessible to the public at the moment due to its roof falling in after recent flooding.
Look at the picture above - it is from Seti's tomb and shows him with Hathor, the goddess of Love. There are two cartouches visible, can you see the one used on the puzzlebox-key? |
