Over a month ago I came to this site and read the
concerns with respect to the closure of our beloved high school
(RVRHS) and just recently I may have been a little too agressive in
my last posting in the 'RVR Closure' but work and reality is what
comes after education and I apologize to those who feel that I was
harsh.
I've read and re-read postings and yes it's true, yet
another anglophone institution closing. At this point I will not,
today nor tomorrow, get into the anglo-franco politics of this --
cuz it pisses me off to debate this even more (from both sides of
the coin) ... but ... have we forgotten about all the francophones
who attended RVR during the 1976-1977 "era" (remember those we
befriended and even the multi-ethnic). During the time I attended
RVR, many francophones were bused in from various 'francophone'
regions of the South Shore to be taught the same thing they learn in
french schools (people we even befriended -- yeah, it's true).
Had I known about what was going on with RVR way before the
airing of the student's walk-out on the nightly news, I would have
made for d**m sure that all contacts I have (whether in provincial
government or local media) would have heard my voice clearly. (Yes,
I have since learned from my RVR days on how to speak my mind).
RVRHS was and will always be MY HIGH SCHOOL and yours as
well. This is where WE met each other. RVRHS is the school WE all
graduated from. RVRHS will always be there one way or another. I
don't like the fact that tomorrow's child will not profit from our
time (uhm) learning and the we have memories from that building, but
don't let it disappear from your hearts. I came close to going to
MacDonald-Cartier before my mother decided on sending me to RVR (and
a protestant school at that!).
Yet, a nerve was hit when they
announce the closing and yes WE are mad like hell that our
yester-year is going going (soon to be) gone and there's nothing we
can do about it. The RVR building has been there for decades (much
like most of us these days -- tee hee) but we'll manage. Our
children (although I'm not one to speak) will manage and probably
appreciate more the trials and tribulations of what is going on
around them right now.
As an RVR alumni, I would like to
suggest that we send the closure of our beloved RVRHS off in style
and of course, with class and -- it and we deserve that much and :-p
to those who created this mess... Should we meet for the final bash,
we'll raise a glass to the high school that was there for me and you
(or as some English professors would say -- you and I).
To
all who read this -- all good things to you. And to those who don't
like my posting, well sorry ... this is how I feel!
