A LETTER TO THE EDITOR: There is clamor among the people for our President to speak to the people. To this point, he has been in office for some time, and has yet to address Congress, or the People in any real manner. He has not congratulated those against whom he ran, nor has he thanked the fine citizens who placed his name on their ballots. The people are in need of his leadership, and must know the man they are to follow, or the coming war will be even more difficult on the public than expected. Our men, brothers, fathers, sons, and husbands, will be dying very soon for this President and for our Great Nation. He must speak out and support them! Congress Approves War Plan! Administration Proves Adept at Shell Games Secretary of War and Many Gen'ls Also Approved The President's War Plan, as sent to Congress by Secretary of War Voege, passed Congress unanimously. Very little debate was had, according to several Congressional staff members, as the plan is very solid. As for the contents of the plan, none can tell. This reporter burned his candles to the end attempting to find someone in the Government to share their knowledge of the plan. The best we can gather is that a major offensive is planned in every theater of the upcoming war, and that no major offensives are planned at all. The unlucky readers of this column must persevere a little longer before knowing how the Administration plans to attack those rebel hordes in the south, in order to bring stability back to our land! We do know, however, that all Generals presented to Congress for commissions have been approved without dissent! The Representatives, however, did have quite a floor debate on the protocol of voting for ones-self. It seems many Congressmen feel it is very untoward for a man to vote himself to Generalship, even though he is his constituents' only voice in the running of our Nation's Legislature. There are many other ideas on the subject, but a motion did pass to disallow any Representative voting for himself. What fine gentlemen we have- being told by each other what is right and wrong! Sources in the Capitol building share that some rancor has been heard coming from several members of the Legislature, but that all has been smoothed and that compromise ruled the day. All have great faith in the leadership of Speaker Graeme Cook to keep steady the rudder of Congress. |
Gov. Placzek Addresses State Legislature Governor Placzek visited the Statehouse yesturday to speak with our elected Legislature. His main topic being how Pennsylvania can help support President Mathena and the Federal Government in keeping America united as one. During the speech, the Governor announced that all members of Pennsylvania's milita will be placed under direct control of the Department of War, at the discretion of the President and Secretary of War Voege. In the Governor's words, "I have full faith in the planning, diligence, and creativity of our National leaders to ensure the safest possible return of Pennsylvania's sons. Some of them will not return, but we will do what is possible to see them safely home." He continued, "I ask all Pennsylvanians to stand shoulder to shoulder with those at arms." The Governor also discussed changes to the current tax system in order to help fund the War effort. No details have been released on the Governor's Plans- and like the Federal level, no one is talking much. |
