The McLaughlins

Their Story

James McLaughlin (1832-1905) married Catherine Costello (1836-1899) in Philadelphia. Both had emigrated from Ireland. They had six children: James, John, Francis, Annie, Theresa and Mary.

-Francis McLaughlin married Mary Coyle. They had five children but only Sara and Marie lived past childhood. Mary died at age 33 in the epidemic of 1909-10. The family lived in South Philadelphia for many years.

*Sara wed Bill Boyle and they raised three children: William J. Jr., Francis and Sara Marie. The family first lived in South Philadelphia then moved to West Philadelphia where they were active for 40 years at St. Francis deSales parish. They then moved to Upper Darby and volunteered at St. Alice's. Frank Boyle wed Jane Paetow and had five children: Michael, Sally Jane, Joseph, Francis and Billy. Sally Boyle married Al Weigand and had four daughters: Christine, Amy, Megan and Julie.

*Marie McLaughlin married Charles Higgins and had a son, Charles; they also lived in deSales parish.

-John McLaughlin married Katie Coyle; they had ten children:

*Catherine married Richard McCormick and raised two children, Richard and Nancy.

*Helen married William Vogt, with whom she had three children, Helen, Rosemarie and Jeannie.

*Joseph married Mary Jones.

*Marie married William McAvey and raised seven children: William, John, Carol, Elizabeth, Regina, Dolores and Frank.

*Regina married Nicholas Lyons and had two children, Nicholas and Stephen.

*Elizabeth married Maurice O'Neill.

*Loretta married Harry Stubel and raised five children: Suzanne, Joseph, Michael, Denise and John.

*Margaret, Sarah and John died in childhood.

-Mary married Frank Clements and had a son, Frank.

-We have no information on James, Annie & Theresa.
