Materials
(include type, size, and amount): for 16
students
-10 egg cartons cut in half
-5 large bottles of acrylic paint in
red, orange, yellow, green, and blue
-20 paintbrushes
-20 paper plates for paint
-20 small Dixie cups for water
-Newspaper to cover tables
-35 pipe cleaners in assorted colors
-20 sets of googly eyes
-10 bottles of Elmer’s glue
-Paper towels

Preparation (What will you do to get ready?):
-Cover tables in newspaper
-Fill Dixie Cups with water
-Put paint on paper plates
-Cut egg cartons in half
Motivation/Demonstration:
-Read The Very Hungry Caterpillar to class
-Demonstrate how to create egg
carton caterpillar
Project/Classroom
Procedure:
-Students will paint egg cartons to
look like caterpillars. The pipe
cleaners will be used for feet and antennae and the googly eyes will be glued
onto the head.

Process:
-Students successfully created a
three dimensional caterpillar
-Students effectively used paint and
glue
-Students gained knowledge of
communication through their artwork
-Students gained knowledge of color
and or mixing colors
-Students put effort into making a
three dimensional caterpillar
