Objectives

Students will create a penguin using a juice carton and paper mache.

Use Oaxacan carvings as basis for sculpture.

Use Oaxacan wood sculptures as basis for found object sculpture.

Students will create miniature works of art from discarded slides.

Use photographs of industrial structures to inspire industrial sculptures.

Students will see the subject of food as a concept to be explored imaginatively.

Description

Using a juice carton as a base, use paper mache over carton to create a head.  Paint body and add construction paper wings.

Use styrofoam scraps to create sculptures based on Oaxacan carvings.

Use found objects to create sculptures based on Oaxacan sculptures.

Use found objects and mixed media to create miniature works of art to mount or wear as a pin.

Find suitable materials to create a 3-D sculpture based on industrial structures like communication towers.

Students will use found objects to create a 3-D sculpture of a food still life.

Materials

Paper mache, juice bottles, water based paint, brushes, water and water containers

Wood scraps, sand paper, wood glue, rubber bands, tempera paint, brushes, perm. markers

Found objects (pill bottles, small containers, etc.), glue, plaster, acrylic paint, brushes

Discarded 35 mm slides, found objects, glue, paint, brushes, markers, pin backings

Found materials (wood, wire, rope, clay, paper mache), glue

Found objects, glue, paint, brushes, mixed media
