First off, journals are a private thing. Journals are something that you keep and write your thoughts in for your enjoyment and your enjoyment only. But since these livejournals are on the internet, everyone with a computer has access to your thoughts and opinions. Not only that, but if you simply go to livejournal.com, you can search peoples interests or the region that they live in, making it simple to find any strangers journal and find out all about their lives. This tells me, that anyone using a livejournal is very starved for attention.
Secondly, not only can everyone read everything you write, but they can also comment on it. So, it's not really a journal anymore, but really more of a rather large message board.
But I guess livejournals aren't so bad. I may think that they are a joke, but they also have their good points. You can keep your friends up to date with your life, make new friends, have a personal way of talking to people who live far away, and you can even join livejournal communities of other people who share your interests.
