I'm Pissed | ||||||
As you can tell, I'm pissed. My friend went to a party the other night in an extremely nice neighborhood called Gold River. Gold River is a place where they paint the pavement black to make it look nice and where you are not allowed to hang a flag other then the U.S. flag. You can't paint your house a different color then it came in, and you can't park your cars outside of the garage. It might sound like paradise to some, but it sounds like fascism to me. Anyways, so my friend is talking to the guy who lives at this certain house where the party is, and this particular host starts talking about what he likes to do in his spare time. His past time happens to be paintballing homeless people. Now, hopefully from this point on, all of you have realized that this is wrong. If not, then I will tell you why. First off, I've been homeless. Almost every one of my friends has either been homeless or is homeless. It's not easy. It's the farthest thing from easy. You can't get a job because you don't have an address, access to a shower, decent clothes, etc. etc. You can't get a place to live without a job. Squatting is illegal in the United States, so even if you need some shelter, you can't get it although no one else is using this particular building. So when you are trying to get out of this situation that is so damn easy to fall into, being shot by some dumb ass rich kid with too much fucking time on their hands and no fucking morals isn't exactly going to make things easier. Secondly, it's fucking scary to be sleeping out there with no shelter, especially when you are a woman. I hear comments about so many homeless women being crazy, but when you are a victem of violence and rape constantly with no one and no government to protect you, it's no wonder why so many homeless women are messed up in the head. I don't think that I could make it that way. And instead of trying to understand and let them get some fucking sleep, these fucking yuppie kids have to add to the fear, and for what, five minutes of "fun". Also, it's not exactly easy to live in Sacramento when you are homeless. First off, it has been proven that when the city of Sacramento is planning on landscaping, they specifically plant spikey or poisonous plants. I wonder why they do that? Maybe because of the homeless population. Services like churches that wish to feed the homeless are also only allowed to do it twice a week for about an hour. Restraunts only allow customers to use their bathrooms most of the time, and yet they get upset when their store entrance reeks of urine. Now, you might be saying, why don't the homeless just go into a shelter. Well, Sacramento doesn't really have many homeless shelters, and the waiting list is almost impossible to get through. Plus, most homeless shelters in the Sacramento area are for men only. I would think that women and children would need the majority of shelters, but I guess our city officials don't feel the same way. And it's not like the homeless in Sacramento are really what they are portrayed as (bums just bumming money for beer). The Sacramento homeless community are constantly petitioning for things such as a tent city, which would be an area specifically for the homeless where they would be allowed to set up their tents as kind of a city. They also have a newspaper, which some of you may not be familiar with, but it is called "Homeward", and they sell it for a two dollar donation which goes to it's print. Not only does it contain articals on current events and the struggle of the homeless community, but it also has obituaries for the homeless who have passed but weren't recognised by any other paper. Just because a person is homeless doesn't make them any less of a person. So please, when you see someone giving a homeless person a hard time, do something. Never give up your personal power to make change. |
