SADF Association (UK)

This is the commencement of a project, started on 9th September 2001.

It is intended as a contact point for former members of the South African Defence Force, and people who might have an interest, to make contact with old friends, and to keep up to date with books, videos etc which might become available.

There is an active email discussion group of SADF related issues, started by John Dovey in 1996. Since then, other websites have been developed. Most of which are connected to John Dovey's `Web Ring'.

There is a small but fairly active group of former SADF people in the UK, who have met at least annually since 1999. We recognise that for people living in South Africa, where most white males over a certain age will have done some form of military service, so there may not be as much of a perceived need or requirement for such an organisation in South Africa, but those of us in the UK do feel the need for this sort of contact, and would like to spread the word to others who might be interested, even if such people might not want to often large flow of emails resulting from the `Army Talk' email discussion group.

There will be further developments on this site by the end of 2001, but at the moment this is just a starting point.

In the mean time, you might consider joining the `Army Talk' email discussion group:

If you would like further information, or would like to help with the setting up of this association, please contact Barry Fowler at:

Please put `SADF association (UK)' in the subject heading to ensure that you get a prompt reply.

By the way, I've taken this project on - or made a start - feeling that this is a worthwhile project, and that somebody should do something to get it started - I'm not possessive of it, and if someone else would like to take on the project and run with it, I would be more than happy to cooperate.
