  • Saturday, September 3, 2005 - Freundschaft Liederkranz of California visited the Washington Saengerbund for a social evening in the Rathskeller of the Old Europe. Photo report: The Washington Saengerbund hosts Freundschaft Liederkranz.

  • Monday, September 5, 2005, 7 pm - Fall rehearsals begin.

  • September 15, 2005 - February 28, 2006 - Exhibition : Adolf Cluss, from Germany to America: Shaping a Capital City Worthy of a Republic. Charles Sumner School Museum. Includes listening stations for the CD " Spaces, Sounds, and Cluss / Raeume, Klaenge, Cluss: Spaces, 11 Audioscapes of 19th-Century Music and Sounds in Washington, DC and Heilbronn", that includes portions of the Washington Saengerbund at Calvary Baptist Church, designed by German-American architect (and Washington Saengerbund member) Adolf Cluss (1825-1905).

  • Friday, September 16 and 30, 2005 - 7 pm - Extra rehearsals for fall concerts.

  • Saturday, September 24, 2005 - Lovettsville Oktoberfest. Held in downtown Lovettsville, VA. Delicious home-made German food served by the Washington Saengerbund. Performers include the Blaskapelle 'Alte Kameraden' and the Alpine Dancers. Vendors, children's activities, fun for the whole family.
    Directions from DC and Virginia: From the Washington Beltway, take the Dulles Toll Road and then the Dulles Greenway (toll) past Dulles Airport. Go all the way to the end of the Greenway (you will be in Leesburg). (Alternatively, you can take Route 7 all the way to Leesburg and avoid the tolls, but you'll have lots of lights.) Bear right unto Route 15 North. You will go through the town of Lucketts. Approximately 4 miles past Lucketts you will pass an Amoco fast mart on the left. One mile past that you will turn left on Lovettsville Road (Route 672). Go 5 miles and you will be in Lovettsville. Directions, starting in Virginia: From the southern part of the Virginia beltway take 236 or Rt.50 west toward Fairfax about 8 miles to Rt.28/Sully Rd right or north toward Dulles Airport. At the airport keep left and merge onto Rt.267 W/Dulles Greenway via the ramp on the left toward Leesburg. Directions from the Virginia suburbs closer to Maryland take Rt.7 (slower) or the Rt.267 W/Dulles Toll Road to the Dulles Greenway ($1.80) toward Leesburg. From the Greenway about 13 miles from Dulles, merge onto Rt.7W. Take exit 1A on the left toward Leesburg/Warrenton. After about 5 miles take the Rt.9 exit toward Hillsboro/Charles Town W.VA. then turn right onto Charles Town Pike/Rt.9. After about 5 miles turn right onto Berlin Turnpike/Rt.287. Continue about 6.5 miles to the town of Lovettsville, VA.

  • Saturday, October 8, 2005 - Mid Atlantic Brewers' Association Oktoberfest at Capitol City Brewing Company, 2700 S. Quincy St., Shirlington. Directions.(The exit from Shirley Highway (395 S) if you are driving northwards is #6, between King Street exit (#5) to the south and Glebe Road (#7) to the north. If you are driving south, take Exit #7 for the "Shirlington" exit, and follow sign to Shirlington. The Village at Shirlington is WEST of Shirley Highway.)

  • Sunday, October 9, 11 am - Festgottesdienst at United Church to celebrate German-American Day, 20th & G Streets, NW, Washington, DC. The Washington Saengerbund will sing for the church service. Dress: Men wear WSB blazers and gray slacks; Women wear knee-length black skirts and long-sleeved white blouses.

  • Sunday, October 30, 2005, 3 pm (warm-up at 2 pm) - The Washington Saengerbund participated in the Totensonntag service at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Washington, DC. Directions. Dress: Men -- WSB blazers and gray slacks; Women -- black slacks or knee-length black skirts and long-sleeved white blouses.

  • Friday, December 2, 2005, 7:30 pm - CD Release of "Eine kleine Weihnachtsmusik" by Washington Saengerbund and Alte Kameraden Blaskapelle, at Heurich House. The CD will be available for purchase ($15). Each group will perform at the party. Light refreshments. Free, reservations required. For reservations or additional information send email to caroltraxler@yahoo.com (until Thanksgiving), or call Mary Stradley at 703-591-1640 (until December 1), with name and phone number for each guest. Reservations are not needed for singers. Singers, for sequence of music, see December 18.
    Singers' dress code: Ladies: white blouses, long black skirts; Men: Saengerbund outfit with red Saengerbund tie. Christmas wreath pin.

  • Thursday, December 8, 2005 - The Washington Saengerbund performs with the Alte Kameraden at the Mormon Temple's "Festival of Lights." Two 30-minute performances, at 7 and 8 pm.

  • Saturday, December 10, 2005 - The Washington Saengerbund performs for private fundraiser and Christmas Candlelight Tours of "The Brewmaster's Castle," the Heurich House Museum. Tickets $65/person, $125 /couple. Details at . Black tie (tux or dark suit with bow tie; long black skirts with long-sleeved white blouses). Christmas wreaths.

  • Wednesday, December 14, 2005, 7 pm - The Washington Saengerbund performed at Sunrise, 5111 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20008, located near the corner of Connecticut and Nebraska. Performing for WSB member Alfred Lorenz and other residents. We sang portions of our program and led a singalong. Herb conducted. We dressed cheerfully and colorfully in red and green.

    , for Saengerbund members at the Concord Clubhouse. We celebrated the unveiling of the original artwork of the July 17, 2005 Sunday Comics Flashbacks by Patrick M. Reynolds, donated by Elsie Messina, with the framing donated by Steve Caldwell.

  • 155th Anniversary of the Washington Saengerbund!
    Saturday, April 22, 2006, 7 pm - "Brahms Liebeslieder" Spring Concert of the Washington Saengerbund
    . The concert featured music by Brahms, Johann Strauss, Jr. and other composers presented by the Washington Saengerbund, under the baton of Maestro Mariano Vales. It was followed by an elegant reception catered by our own Austrian chef Siegfried. Held in the beautiful Auditorium of the Scottish Rite Center, 2800 Sixteenth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20009. Free, gated, secure above and underground parking.
    Tickets $25 in advance, $30 at the door. To order tickets, make your check payable to The Washington Saengerbund and mail it to Mary Stradley, 10134 Mosby Woods Dr., Fairfax, VA 22030, Tel. 703-591-1640. Tickets are held at the door. Doors open at 6:30.

    Regional Saengerfest Rehearsal at St. John's United Church of Christ near Catonsville, MD.
    This rehearsal was explicitly for Arion Gesangverein and Washington Sängerbund, with Dorothea Parish, lead conductor for the Sängerfest. The church is located just off of I-95; same exit as BWI Airport. Instead of heading south on I-195 to BWI, head north on MD 166 toward Catonsville. At the first traffic light, turn left into the grounds of the Church.

  • June 2, 3, & 4, 2006 - The 49th National Saengerfest of the NOSB will be held at the Lancaster Host Resort & Conference Center, Lancaster, PA, with the Lancaster Liederkranz as host chorus.
    The Washington Sängerbund will give a choral presentation on Friday evening at approx. 9:40pm with selections from Brahms Liebeslieder:

    • Board meetings scheduled for 2005-06: September 9, 2005; October 14, 2005; November 18, 2005; Thursday, January 12 (changed from January 13), 2006, Friday, February 17, 2006, Friday, March 17, 2006, Friday, April 28, 2006. Board meetings are scheduled for 6:45 pm (street parking opens at 6:30), at Concord Clubhouse.
