What is Self-Harm?

Self-Harm also known as Self-Abuse, is a pervasive and chronic problem among people of all ages and both genders. For many years it has been considered difficult, if not impossible, to help people end this behaviour. People who repeatedly self-injure (cutting, burning and non-lethal overdosing, etc.) are often in and out of psychiatric hospitals without much benefit. But there is hope for positive change using the model of care developed by Mary Graham and S.A.F.E. in Canada.

Although developed in a community context, the model can be adapted for in-patient, groups or individuals.
