LATEST NEWS: August 21 -- It's time to declare this race final. We hope everyone had a good time watching each other's racers race towards (in some cases) Singapore. The winners are: 9845 Within 365 by TeamKozmo (*TnT*) win the primary goal of getting to Jurassic park cache in Singapore. They therefore win 75% of the entry pool -- $90 Spike by Schway wins the first secondary goal of most miles travelled. Spike travelled in excess of 31,000 miles and probably would have travelled more if not for getting stuck for several months in Australia. Schway wins 1/2 of the remaining entry pool -- $15 Two-Steppin Texas Sytle by CindyFrag wins the other secondary goal of most caches visited. Two-Steppin visited more than 600 caches (I stopped counting long ago) thanks to Cybercat who carried it along with her in her travels. CindyFrag gets the remainder of the entry pool -- $15. Alos, all three of these bugs are still out there travelling around. Overall, we think the race was a great success. As this was the last event held by SAGA, there won't be another race this year. 7-30 -- This will be the last update before the race concludes. In two weeks, the final positions and distances will be determined, in order to give any possible travelers time to log movements. However, only bug movements dated July 31st or earlier will count. We hope everyone had a great time watching all the racers moving. Unfortunately, this was the last SAGA event before it was disbanded.. 10-16-05 -- Lots of movement this week. Particulary, Two-steppin' was taken on a tour of South Texas and "Die"ing and Pixie were taken around Michigan on their way to Florida. Also, Spike surfaced after a couple of months of inactivity in South Africa. So, not only is Spike the first of our racers to make it outside the US, but is now the new leader in both "Most miles travelled" and "Closest to destination." 10-02-05 -- A dozen racer movements this week. "Die"ing to reach Singapore and Pixie seem to be joined together as twins. One can't seem to go anywhere without the other. Globetrotter, although the cache it was in has been muggled, is still the closest to the destination and has accumulated the most miles. I don't think that'll last much longer though. "Die" and Pixie are fast approaching in miles traveled. 9-11-05 -- Lots of racer movement this week. Of course, Pu Lao's revisiting the same event cache over and over only counts as one cache visited. But, looks like Pu Lao is now headed for Hawaii. 8-21-05 -- First of all, there's a possibility that 4 of the racers have gone missing. Hopefully, the cacher/cachers that took them will log them soon. On another note, everybody owes Scott&Judy a big thanks for moving 7 of the racers to DFW where they can hopefully hitchhike to Singapore. 8-13-05 -- Not many more of the racers have left the starting cache, but one has made it to South Carolina and two others are rumored to be on the way to Chicago. There's also a possibility that one has been lost. 8-6-05 -- The racers have started moving. Over the first few days, 10 of the 24 were picked up. Five of those have already been placed in other caches. Two of those five are on the move again. 7-31-05 -- And they're off. All 24 placed in I35 TB Inn @ New Braunfels (GCPY9W) 7-23-05 -- The Kick-off event was a great success. Everybody got to see all the racers. (19 so far). We voted for the racer "most likely to succeed". The winner was Around the World Squirrel by Raptor and Rex. We will be sending them a handmade SAGA key chain. Congratulations!! 7-14-05 -- Event page (GCPHG5) updated 6-18-05 -- It's time, folks. The 1st annual SAGA Bug Race will begin on or about August 1st 2005. The goal this year will be to get your racer to Orchard Road Travel Bug Hotel, GCNAEF, near Saga Village, Singapore, within 365 days. |
