Hufton Receives George E. Daly Award
Saginaw Downtown Lions Club member and longtime secretary, Lion Wil Hufton was selected as the 2004-2005 George E. Daly Award recipient.

This award was created in 1986-1987 by the district cabinet to honor the outstanding Lion of the Year in District 11D-1. Candidates must be nominated by their clubs on the standard form furnished by the selection committee. The candidate must be a Lion for at least three years and can not be a current zone chair, region chair, district governor or any of the past district governors. The two and three past district governors serve as the Lion of the Year committee and in turn will select three non Lions to be an impartial selection committee. Nominees are judged on their Lions activities in clubs, district and state and civic work performed in their communities.

The award was named for Lion George E. Daly, PID, a member of the East Flint Lions Club who served as district governor during 1965-1966 and director of Lions International in 1969-1971. Lion George is the only Lion to hold this office from our district.

The award was presented to Lion Hufton at the club's Member Recognition and Installation of Officers Banquet on June 15, 2005.  Incoming District Governor Lion Bob Heft provided the honors of presenting the award to Lion Hufton.

Lion Hufton has served the Saginaw Downtown Lions Club as its club secretary for over 10 years and is regarded by many in MD 11 as a premiere secretary.  He is also a Lion of the Year recipient from the Saginaw Downtown Lions Club and a twice bestowed with the Melvin Jones Fellow.
