Peace Poster Contest
Saginaw Downtown Lions Club Peace Poster Contest 1st Place Winning Entry
Artist's Statement: "Peace without borders isn't a puzzle, you just have to be nice".
Lions Clubs International wholeheartedly supports and promotes peace around the world.  To facilitate this, each year the world's largest service club organization attempts to foster a continued growth of peace through the eyes of young children through a Peace Poster contest.

The annual contest is a way for local Lions Clubs to reach out directly to middle school-aged children of 11, 12 and 13 years old in their community in an effort to advance this on-going and very worthwhile endeavor.  Local Lions Clubs that wish to participate in the Peace Poster Contest first select schools or school groups in their community and purchase kits to be given to the schools.  These kits provide the theme, rules and requirements of the year's Peace Poster Contest.

The theme of the contest changes each year, but what does not change is the willingness of the students, their love of art, imagination, and marvelous talents!

The theme for the 2005-06 contest is "
Peace Without Borders".

This year, the Saginaw Downtown Lions Club delivered twenty-four kits among two groups, Arthur Eddy Middle School and the Saginaw Boys and Girls Club.  The twenty-four posters submitted were beautifully prepared.  The entries were judged by the Art Departement at Delta College, University Center, Michigan.

The Saginaw Downtown Lions Club is proud to have participated in this event for another year.  Moreover, we are humbled by the many willing students who took the time to enter.  To you we say, thank you!

Our congratulations go out to our four finalists whose posters are displayed here.  Each of our finalists were given a savings bond.  This year's winning entry, as seen above, will be automatically entered into the District competition.  The District winner will then advance to the Multiple District competition and that winner will advance all the way to the International competition and a chance at a $2,000US scholarship and participate in a special ceremony held at the United Nations in New York.

If your school would like to participate in next year's contest, please write to the club at the address at the top of the page.  It is not too early to submit your request!

Remember, peace in any language still means peace.  Even our children know!
