Millard Filmore

The Millard Filmore Appreciation Society

The Rodney Dangerfield of Presidents

Poor Millard Filmore. Historically, he gets no respect at all. While George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and Franklin Roosevelt get schools named after them, about the only place you're likely to find a Millard Filmore High School is on a TV sitcom.

But let's look at some of his accomplishments. Like Lincoln, he was born in a log cabin and rose to become president of the United States.

And how many teenage boys ever had a crush on one of their teachers? All but, what, maybe half a dozen? Filmore not only fell in love with the redheaded teacher of his teens, but he actually got to marry her and make her First Lady. Now there's an inspiration to every boy who's ever gazed longingly at the young lady trying to drill the history of the Industrial Evolution into his lovestruck little head!
