The history of the North Shore Pops Concert Band
Back in 1985, a wonderfully eclectic collection of twenty-five musicians gathered in Glen Cove, NY. At the core of the Band were professionals who had performed with Benny Goodman, Guy Lombardo, Glenn Miller, Xavier Cugat, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as other top Big Bands and Broadway shows. These gifted musicians set the tone and style of the North Shore Pops for years to come.
Over the years, the North Shore Pops Concert Band has grown in size and reputation. Today we are a musical jewel for all to enjoy. We are a 55-piece, full scale concert band. Our conductor since 1995 is Maestro Eric R. Albinder, who ably took the baton after our Founder, Al Greene.
We are fortunate to attract some of the finest dedicated musicians around. The North Shore Pops is a great outlet for fine local musicians to come together and share their talent. Come to one of our rehearsals and bring your chops!
The North Shore Pops Concert Band aims to be an artistic asset to our Long Island community. Every year we perform for a number of good causes, such as Veterans' homes, extended-care facilities and hospitals, as well as community-sponsored charity and benefit events. We rehearse at the Glen Cove High School every Thursday evening from 7:30pm to about 9:30pm throughout the school year.
