Sailor Moon Fan Guide

These are a few terms that I have compiled that every Moonie, new and old should know. This will help you understand "Sailor Moon" a lot better. This is just general information, I'm not going to go into any great detail, if you do happen to have a question on any particular subject, email me, and I will try to help you out. Enjoy!!

There are 5 seasons of Sailor Moon. They are:
- 1st season: Sailor Moon
- 2nd season: Sailor Moon R (Romance)
- 3rd season: Sailor Moon S (Super)
- 4th season: Sailor Moon SS (SuperS)
- 5th season: Sailor Moon SailorStars
In the 1st season, the inner 5 scouts are introduced, as well as both guardian cats, Tuxedo Mask, and most of the secondary characters.
In the second season, it is split into 2 parts, the first half with Alan and Ann, called the "Doom Tree Series", in the second half, Rini is introduced, she falls out of the sky onto Darien and Serena while they are kissing in the park. The Black Moon is also introduced, along with Sailor Pluto.
In the third season, Sailors Uranus, Neptune, and Saturn come in, along with the Death Busters and Mistress 9. Rini comes back as a Sailor-in-training.
In the 4th Season, the Amazoness Quartet, the Dead Moon Circus, and the Pegasus/Elios are introduced. In the 5th Season, Galaxia and her Sailor Anima-Mates, the Sailor Stars and Princess Fireball came in. Also Mina starts going to Juuban High with Amy, Serena, and Lita.
There are 3 Sailor Moon Movies:
- Sailor Moon R: The Promise of the Rose
- Sailor Moon S: Hearts In Ice
- Sailor Moon SS: Black Dream Hole

"Promise of the Rose" deals with Darien's past, which, of course, he doesn't really remember. Artemus detects an asteroid headed towards Earth. It is piloted by Fiore who is controlled by the Kisenian Blossom. The Sailor Senshi use Sailor Teleport to transport to the asteroid. It shows the true bond between the scouts, and the love between Darien and Serena.
In the S Movie, another asteroid is heading towards earth, this time piloted by the evil Ice Queen and her Snow Dancers. This movie focuses mostly on Luna who develops a crush on a human named Kakeru who saves her from being run over by a car. In the end, Luna becomes human to save Kakeru, and realizes that what she wants could never be, and that Artemus is her true love.
Sailor Moon SS starts off with all these abductions of children, and Rini and Serena have a cookie bake-off. An evil woman named Vadianne has taken over the fairies responsible for making candy taste good to children. One fairy resists the brainwashing and falls in love with Rini while while trying to stop Vadianne from forming a Black Dream Hole from the sugar she takes from the children.

FAST FACTS

Sailor Moon was originally a manga or comic book written and drawn by Takeuchi Naoko. It became an animation later. It was called Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. That translates to Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon
Although based on the manga, the anime is extremely different. Sailor Moon, though still a klutz, IS capable of being a pretty soldier, Darien isn't such a rude jerk, and Rini is pretty cute. Rini has her own Sailor Quartet, formerly the Amazoness Quartet, or Asteroid Senshi. All the soldiers are revealed to be princesses of their own respective planets, as well as part of Serena's court. They all have their own castles also:
MOON: Crystal Palace
MERCURY: Mariner Castle
MARS: Phobos Deimos Castle
JUPITER: Io Castle
VENUS: Magellan Castle
URANUS: Miranda Castle
NEPTUNE: Triton Castle
PLUTO: Charon Castle
SATURN: Titan Castle
The guardians, namely Luna, Artemus, Diana, Phobos, and Deimos (Raye's crows) all gain human forms in the Sailor Moon SuperS manga.
Sailor V was another manga created by Takeuchi Naoko. It preceded Sailor Moon and had a nerdy guy who had a crush on Mina, a best friend that resembled Amy, and Mina was kind of a ditz also with a talking guardian cat. Sound familiar?
The reason that blood type is so prevalent in this series, is because the Japanese believe that blood type determines your personality. When people from Japan talk to Americans, they can't believe that most of us don't know our own blood type. It's kind of like the color-coding personality tests we use.
In Japan, it is polite to introduce yourself last name first, and to address other people that way until you know them well, it is a form of respect. That's why you will sometimes hear Tsukino Usagi, or Usagi Tsukino.
Usagi doesn't translate to Serena, it is literally "rabbit".
In the original Japanese Anime, the senshi's transformations were in English, as were their attacks. The Japanese think that it is fun to say English words so they often use them. Makes you wonder why DiC changed the names of the attacks anyway!?!

TERMS TO KNOW

Anime: the Sailor Moon cartoon, the Japanese term for animation.
Senshi: soldier. The NA Dub refers to them as Sailor "Scouts", but a closer translation is soldier. I think that Scouts makes them sound wimpier.
NA Dub: the English translation of Sailor Moon
Ginzuishou: Sailor Moon's silver crystal, sometimes refered to as the Silver Emperium Crystal.
Henshin: transformation, each senshi has her own henshin stick.
Odango-Atama: Darien's nickname for Serena--literally translates to "dumpling-head", but we know it as "meatball-head".
Hentai: disgusting porn..NEVER go to a hentai page!!!
--chan: a suffix attached to a name when being affectionate.

Kawaii: cute
Chibi: small, or mini
