Saturday 6 PM -- Holy Eucharist, Rite II
Sunday 8 AM -- Holy Eucharist, Rite I
(this service is preceded by morning
Prayer at 7:45)
Sunday, 10 AM -- Holy Eucharist, Rite II
Rite I uses older English while Rite II uses contemporary English.
Saturday has hymns, Sunday at 10 there are hymns, the choir, and parts of the
service are sung.
In days of old,
people used to speak of High Church and Low Church. High
Church meant that the parish had the Eucharist regularly while Low Churches
had Morning Prayer most of the time with Holy Eucharist less often (very
Protestant in thinking). High Churches also tended to have more ceremony
while low churches had very simple and plain services. These designations
don't apply much any more. The Prayer Book indicates that the Holy Eucharist
is the principal act of worship on the Lord's Day. So, most churches have
the holy Eucharist regularly, however, the ceremony may differ from one
place to another. We consider ourselves to be in the middle. We do use
incense at 10 AM, we sing more than some parishes, but we are not like a
pre-Vatican II Roman Catholic Church nor are we like an Orthodox church.
