"Demon In My View"
      Book Review
Synopsis from the jacket of “Demon In My View”

Jessica isn’t your average teenager. Though nobody at her high school knows it, she’s a published author. Her vampire novel Tiger, Tiger has just come out under the pen name Ash Night. Jessica often wishes she felt as comfortable with her classmates as she does among the vampires and witches of her fiction. She has always been treated as an outsider at Ramsa High.
But two new students have just arrived in Ramsa, and both want Jessica’s attention. She has no patience with overly friendly Caryn, but she’s instantly drawn to handsome Alex, a cocky, mysterisous boy who seems surprisingly familiar. If she didn’t know better, she’d think Aubrey, the alluring villian from Tiger, Tiger, had just sprung to life. That’s impossible, of course; Aubrey is a figment of her imagination. Or is he?

The second of so far, four books, Demon In My Veiw is a the story of the lone writer named Jessica who finds out that what she has been writing is more then just fiction.
In this book we follow along Jessica’s life and reecounter Aubrey, Fala and see a little bit of Jager. Unlike it’s predecessor, Demon In My View shows us a more sweet side of Aubrey. One that most readers never knew he had. The character we all learned to hate becomes one we love to love! And with the adition of Jessica’s darkness they both fit together amazingly.
As first read this book I noticed small signs that maybe Amelia was writing this trying to put herself in the place of Jessica or even using Jessica to mirror herslef. Then as I read the book again and again I began to realize that yes, I think Amelia was conveing herself aas Jessica. It isn’t an umcommon thing to see in books, and I for one, liked it. It gave me a sense of closeness to the writer.
Anywho for some reason I couldn’t help but feel like this book was on a bit of a lower scale then In The Forests Of The Night. Maybe it was because this book was not as dark as the first one and didn’t focus on so much death and pain. It felt lighter and even sometimes a bit more childish then the first book. This takes nothing away from the book itself. I felt that the lightness of it gave us a fresh look at the humanity that eminated from the vampires. It showed us that the vampires weren’t just evil bloodsucking leeches, but also people.
Now for the characters. As I said before we see Aubrey in a whole new light. Of course he still has that predator mind and is still as powerful and dark as ever, but we see for the first time compassion. You can feel his strength and how he tries to keep his true feelings from making him slip up. I for one liked how Amelia showed Aubrey I one light and made him really something even more in another book. Her knowledge of how to grow a character is amazing.
Another character we revisit is Fala. As before one’s first thoughts of her are as a bitchy self centered person. My thoughts and I’m sure many others were only confirmed in this book. We see the true nature of Fala as a really revenge oriented character and with more then just one problem on her hands.
Again we see the smallest hint of Jager. Although we do learn Fala and his backround we do not have a great discription of his true character. I hope that Amelia will one day get around to really bringing this interesting character to life.
For the first time we see a small hint of another race in Amelia’s world. The witches. Though definantly not as much as in the next book (Shattered Mirror) wedo get a glimmer into the rules and values of the witch clans. The character that involves us in this is Caryn Smoke. Though most witches are vampire hunters Caryn is a healer and kinder then those that we have heard of before hand. Though she is a pest to Jessica she is an influential character to all others.
Demon In My Veiw is an amazing book. It answers a lot of the questions we have about Amelia’s vampire world and also brings up plenty of it’s own questions. This is a must read book for any Amelia fan and also a great addition to her growing collection of books.
