So What? : The main protagonist of the series, Kenshin is the most infamous assasin from the Bakumatsu. After facing many trials and tribulations, Kenshin swore never to take another person's life again. His weapon, which has the sharp edge of the blade on the wrong side, helps him keep his promise. A kind and calculating individual, but has a dark side when he is angered. His sword now serves those who does not have the power to protect themselves.

So What? : Despite loosing her mother and father at a very young age, Kaoru is a caring, strong-willed and intelligent individual who gets extremely hot-tempered at times (Especially if she sees women flirting with Kenshin).

Once in a while, Kaoru shows her frailty as she is afraid to lose any of her love ones. Because of this, Kaoru will do everything she can to help someone in need. Like most women, she is even funnier when she's drunk (hehe...just kidding ladies.) *Sigh*... if she could only cook as well as she fights.

AKA : Zanza the ganster, Sano, Chicken Head, Aho [moron] (to Saito)

Dicipline : Futae no Kiwami mixed in with some good ol' fashioned street brawling ^_^
Weapon : Zanbatou (huge sword used to dismember horses and its rider in Japanese warfare), Knuckle sandwich (yum..)

So What? : Leaving his family at an early age, Sano joined a group called the Sekihou Tai. There he felt like he belonged and was very happy -- happy until the new Mejii government double-crossed the Sekihou Tai and massacred almost all of its members -- including his mentor and friend, Sagara Souzo. Only he and his friend, Tsunan, escaped. In his honor, he changed his family name to Sagara.

After ending back in Tokyo, Sano has then built quite a reputation as the gangster Zanza. The back of his shirt says Aku (bad/evil).

A brawler at heart, Sano loves a challenging fight and it is through fighting that he becomes friends with Kenshin. Ever since then, he made Kenshin swore to never be a wandering rurouni again without taking him along.

Sano loves to gamble (dice in particular), drink jarfulls of sake, and being a bum. This is why he is always broke and is never to pay his bills at the Akabeko. He is nonetheless a loyal friend who will fight to the death for the right reasons.

AKA : Yahiko Chan (To Tsubame), Human Skipping Stone (To Sano) (Okay, so I made that last part up -- you know its true)
Date of Birth : January 1869
Age : 10

Dicipline : Kamiya Kasshin Ryu, Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu Modoki (Imitation/Copycat)
Weapon : Shinai (bamboo kendo sword), Bokutou (wooden sword), His head (literally) ^o^

So What? : Yahiko is the orphan son of a samurai family. Apparently, his father owed yakuza some money so he is forced to do their bidding by stealing them enough money to buy his freedom. A chance encounter with Kenshin reveals that the yakuza is lying to him and that his father already paid what he owed them a long time ago. Needless to say, Kenshin kicked the gangster's butts and Kaoru took Yahiko in as her pupil. His wise-cracking smartass ways get him in trouble -- especially to Kaoru! Nonetheless he is an eager and dedicated student who wants to be as great a fighter as Kenshin.

AKA : The Foxy Doctor, Ahen Onna (when she was still making opium. It means "Opium Woman")
Date of Birth : December 1857
Age : 22
Height: 166 cm
Weight : 45 kg
Dicipline : Uhm...she's a doctor *shrug*
Weapon : A concealed knife (quite possible the same knife she uses when she operates on patients), really sexy eyes 0_o ...

So What? : Originally from a well-respected family of doctors, Megumi found herself miserable -- making an even more addictive strain of opium for a man named Kanryu when all she wanted was to study being a doctor. In an attempt to escape from her captor, she meets Kenshin and Sano -- who were at the time, loosing a lot of money gambling with some of Sano's friends (gah..).

While confronting Kanryu and his hired Oniwa Banshu, Yahiko gets poisoned and Megumi nurses him back to health. Seeing her selfless act, Kenshin convinces Megumi that her dreams are not over yet, and she can redeem herself for selling opium by saving the lives of many as a doctor. She now works with Dr. Genzai.

Much like the animal she is nicknamed after, Megumi is very smart and cunning. Her knowledge of medicine is only surpassed by her beauty and dignity.

So What? : This kind old man is the adopted grandfather of Kaoru. He is the town doctor (heh...probably the only one in the area) and so he helps those who are in need of medical attention. He brings in Ayame and Suzume chan to play at the Kamiya Dojo with Kenshin and the gang.

She loves dem ricecakes, but loves Kenshin a whole lot more. As a matter of fact, she and Suzume affectionately call Kenshin, Ken-ni (Ken brother).

So What? : The second of Dr. Genzai's beloved grandchildren, Suzume's playfulness and innocense is loved by those around her. She and Ayame seem to repeat each other's sentences. Like Ayame, she is also very close to Kenshin and considers him her brother. Overall, a cute and charming little kid (Ya gotta love dem pigtails or whatever they're called, heh.)
