History: Daular is ideally situated near an oasis, and not far from the river town of Queur. The oases allows cultivation of crops including nuts, dates, cotton and wheat, as well as grazing of sheep and goats. Proximity to Queur and ease of transport have made Daular a wealthy town, though its existence is still very much controlled by the whims of the desert. Buildings here are created from mud brick, created from the materials supplied by the oasis. Buildings: Temple of Edalirin This temple is rather simplistic in design, but still is the center of the town’s worship. It is constructed of mud bricks, presenting a rather plain exterior. The interior is decorated with tapestries and rugs that have all been locally produced. Priest’s residence The priest’s residence also serves as a school and gathering place for some town meetings. Tritica Inn This prosperous inn is owned by Jasuf Bulgani. He and his family cook and clean, making this a comfortable place to stay for caravan members and other traders. Daular Stable The stable is jointly owned and managed by the townspeople. Each month, a different citizen is responsible for overseeing its operation. The stable is important in the travel of caravans and tradespeople to Daular. Loram Bakery Brymma Loram is a young widow with two children, who runs the local bakery, creating meat pies, breads and sweets. They live in the bakery. Isoof Cheeses Emitt Isoof has invented an ingenious method of channeling water from the fountain. Pipes carry it underground to a cellar beneath his establishment, where it cools the cheeses he creates from camel, goat and sheep milk. He shares this technology with Quor Rundaar, since his wife is Quor’s sister. Rundaar Grocer Quor Rundaar utilizes the cooling system developed by Emitt Isoof to cool a storage area that contains rare perishables, such as Isoof cheese. He trades with the local farmers for foodstuffs, and is their intermediary with many of the traders and caravans. Yoorak Jeweler Omar Yoorak is a master jeweler. He uses gems and metals taken in trade to create beautiful rings, pendants, necklaces and earrings. He lives in his shop. Nitoom Cabinetry Emik Nitoom creates fine chests, tables, and other wooden objects from wood harvested from the oasis, as well as that taken in trade. Because of the rarity of wood, these objects are quite expensive, and Emik and his family are quite rich. Emik is training his sons in cabinetry as well. Cabash Basketry Inka Cabash creates woven goods, including baskets, furniture, and containers of various sizes, using reeds growing in and around the oasis. Zahrook Textiles Indran Zahrook and his family use the wool and cotton produced locally to create fine cloth. Sugi Zahrook (wife of Indran) makes clothing, which is sold here, along with threads, dyes from foreign and local sources, and various needles used in sewing. Other Structures Fountain of Delight The central well of the town, the fountain of delight is an artesian well, flowing on its own to fill the large basin that serves to water passing caravans, as well as supplying more water to the town. |
