Town of Emar
History:

Emar is a small trading town, serving caravans that follow the overland route from Sakril south, as well as those traveling east into the desert, on their way to Daular and beyond.  Most of the buildings here are sandstone, cut from a local quarry.  Only the fact that this town has two deep wells allows it to exist at all.  Shepherds use the land surrounding the town for grazing their sheep.

Building:

Temple of Edalirin The temple in Emar is notable because of the many donations that various traders have made to it.  Of particular interest within the stone building is a large tapestry depicting a sandstorm, and the caravan’s survival due to the aid of shepherds from Emar.  There are also many fine rugs that cover the floors, donations from grateful travelers.

Priest’s residence
The priest’s residence also serves as school house for the children in town whose parents wish them to learn reading and writing.  Most parents desire this knowledge, since it is useful in trading ventures.

Lot the Smith
Lot Cadigonn lives and works at the smithy.  Because of the importance of Emar to caravans, he often has a great deal of work.  He specializes in horseshoes, wagon parts, and simple cooking needs.  One town boy is apprenticed to Lot.

Dwirit Textiles
Gweri Dwirit’s family is part Sakoian, part Drulon, as his mother was from the swamplands to the south.  Gweri grew up in the traditions of the desert, but he has some influence from the south as well, and this can be seen in the cloths he weaves and uses in clothing.  In addition, he is a ropemaker, and has some expertise in leather repair.  Gweri and his family live in his shop.

Nydir Trader
Abrom Nydir and his family live in the shop.  Abrom specializes in trading with those caravans whose members are too laden or too exhausted to proceed farther.  He has contacts in Sakril, as well as in Ardar and Emar.  Nydir sometimes organizes caravans of his own to sell local cloth and raw wool in Sakril.

Rikar Stonemason
Ansel Rikar’s family has been making buildings for generations.  Currently, he has his main shop in Emar, due to the prolific quarry nearby.  Carrying the stone to distant towns is quite expensive, but Rikar’s talent is known far and wide, so he is often sought in a new building if the person building it has the means.  In the shop here, he creates statuary and other carvings, which are traded to passing caravans.  His sons are apprenticed to him.

Yhir Mercantile
Quomar Yhir runs the mercantile, where any type of good may be traded.  He commonly stocks nonperishable foodstuffs, harness and equipment for caravans, domestic use items like lamps and furniture, and other assorted goods.  His family helps run the shop, and lives upstairs.

Adray Foods
Isteff Adray specializes in foods.  Part of the store is a bakery, where Shmira Adray and her daughters bake bread, meat pies, and other foods.  Isteff’s half is a butcher shop, where lamb, mutton and occasionally exotic animals are dressed and preserved, usually by salting.

Traveler’s Rest Inn
The Traveler’s Rest is a prosperous inn, owned by the Caocan family.  Maka Caocan and his wife run the inn, and their children work there and in the adjoining stable.  The Traveler’s Rest was the first structure created in Emar, and occupies a prominent position near the North Well.

Traveler’s Rest Stable
Stable owned and operated by the Caocan family.  There are many stalls here, suitable for horses, donkeys or camels.

Other Structures

North Well
The North Well was the first well dug in this area.  It is very deep, but the water from it is very pure and abundant.  A pulley system lifts water in a series of buckets from the depth.

East Well
The East Well was dug when Emar began to become a stop for caravans.  The well is not as deep as the North Well, and the water is sometimes muddy or sandy.  Occasionally the priest or other citizens will consider that they might need to deepen this well, but for now, it provides ample water to augment the North Well.
