As soon as the sirens faded away, Kero slipped out from under the bed. He flew to Sakura's desk and pulled out her cell phone Madison gave her (with difficulty because of his size). Then he dialed Madison's number. After a moment Madison picked up. "Hello?" "Madison!" Kero cried. "Boy am I glad you picked up! I need to talk to you!" "Who IS this? Kero, is that you?" "Nooo, it's the Mirror Card in Kero's form." "....." "OF COURSE IT'S ME YOU NITWIT!" "Oh, hi! Why would YOU want to talk to me?" "What's that supposed to mean?!" "Oh, forget it! Let me talk to Sakura." "She can't talk right now...SHE'S BUSY BEING HURT IN A HOSPITAL BED!!" "What?!" "That attack last night really hurt her! She woke up screaming and she's on her way to the hospital this minute!" "Oh no! But what do you want me to do?" "Listen carefully. I want you to call Li and......."
A few minutes later, Li and Madison showed up below Sakura's window, just what Kero told them to do. "Kero!" Li cried. "Send down the Clow Book!" Within a minute, the Clow Book was dropped out the window and Li catched it. Then Kero flew out the window to greet them. Around his neck was the Sealing Wand. He gave it to Li. "All right, Kero," Li said. "Tell me everything. Why is Sakura in the hospital, and why are you giing me the Clow Book?" Kero took a deep breath. "All right...The truth must come out sometime. Sakura was attacked by The Death Card. I need you to help save her life, so you'll need the Clow Book to help you." "Th-the Death Card?" Madison whispered softly, looking scared. "You mean she can die?!" Li cried. "We still have time," Kero said. "You see, The Death must get a direct hit in a person's head to kill someone instantly. But because Sakura was attacked in the leg, I thought it would take longer. I thought we would capture The Life Card just in time..." "What's this 'Life Card'?" Li asked. "Will it save Sakura?" "Yes," Kero said. "Within this rate, Sakura will die by tomorrow morning. You have to capture The Death tonight first before it does any more damage, then capture The Life to heal Sakura. They only appear at night. Use the Clow Cards to help you." Li was silent for a few moments. His and Madison's eyes began to fill with tears. "Why wouldn't you tell me before?!" Li hollered. "You could've told me right after she was attacked!!" "I didn't want you three to be scared..." Kero said sadly. "But we still have time. Are you up to it?" Li nodded. "Good. Then we'll meet a Penguin Park at midnight tonight." "I'll come too," Madison agreed. "I might not be much help to you, but Sakura's my friend too. I want to be there. I'll help you look." "Then it's settled," Kero said. "Remember, you'll have to sneak out at midnight."
Li arrived at Penguin Park, right on schedule. He looked around for Madison and Kero. *Where can they be?* he thought. He climbed up the Penguin Slide to look around. Sure enough, Madison and Kero arrived. Madison ran up to the slide and called up to Li. "You won't see much if you stay in one spot. You'll have to look around." Li nodded and slid down. "What took you so long?" "I had trouble sneaking past the security guard, sorry," Madison said. "Let's split up," Kero suggested. "That way, we'll find them faster. I'll go with Madison, and you can go alone, Li. Okay?" "Okay." Li began walkingg, and sure enough, he heard a thunder noise. He gasped. "The Death Card!"
