The Tartan is one of many Dee Wing flies created by Mr. Brown. This fly was created for clear weather days and low-water of the Dee River. It became not only popular here but spread rapidly all over Great Britan and is now a world famous fly. Other flies by W. Brown are The Gled Wing, Jeannie,Logie, Grey Egal, Yellow Egal and the world renowned "Blue Charm". These flies tyed for the Aberdeenshire Dee River where well accepted through-out the British Isles, Scandinavia and North America. |

Tying Formula |
|
|
|
Tag 4-5 wraps of fine silver wire and gold floss
Tail A red rump feather of the golden pheasant
Body Seals fur dyed claret and picked out
Rib Wide silver tinsel
Hackle Red cock's feather palmered over the lower two-thirds of the body. Above that a long-fibred blue-grey heron's rump feather, leaving a full mass at the shoulder.
Throat A pintail or teal hackle, tied above the wing
Wing Two long strips of silver-grey turkey
Head Black ostrich herl and tie off
