SRR LIVES AND PLAYS IN WESTVILLE, GA at SPARKS OF SECESSION 1861
The Salt River Rifles met in Lumpkin, GA to be part of  SCAR (SE Coalition of Authentic Reenactors) to host
Sparks of Secession - Westville, GA 1861.
The reenactors portrayed typical civilians of a working class town. The town is made up of over 40 original structures moved to the create the site.  Vignttes were many and varied.  They included a Recruiting Station, blacksmiths, lawyers, 21st GA encampment, cooks, seamstresses, laundresses, textile makers and dyers, court docket, general store and much more. The event was too short to even get to experience everything in the town. The event also had created a working economy with assigned goals and first person assignments from the actual census of Lumpkin. With farmers in town doing business after harvest and so many young recruits in town, there was bound to be some drama. Saturday evening a period BBQ followed by some stirring speeches were served up to us. The tavern also brought some life to the evenings of this humble village. Sunday was a somber day as the Ladies Aid Society presented the 21st GA Colonel a set of handmade colors.  Then the 21st GA, CO. I faced and marched out the village gate to their destiny in VA.  The feedback that followed this event was overwhelmingly positive.
