The Deepest Bear at the Dutch Recreational Freedive Meet

One weekend in January, Deepest Bear and Sam went to the 2nd Dutch Recreational Freedive Meet, held in Beverwijk near Amsterdam by Aafke Verkade. This bunch of Dutch divers are more interested in learning the soul side of diving than breaking records. They would rather be able to swim like a dolphin or roll around underwater like a manatee than break a world record and who can blame them! Workshops available at the meet included Waterwing Swimming, a monofin technique class with a mirrored lane to watch yourself, beginner freediving which turned into underwater scrabble and synchronised swimming. I was too shy to try synchro in public but had a go in the bath later and I was great! Thanks to Aafke, Joey, Amanda and all the strange Dutch people for making DB so welcome. xx
