Mission 272
by Blaze the Evil

Mission Briefing:
"There have been several reports of a vermin(we don't know its species)that can fend off hundreds of goodbeasts at a time! Try to recruit this soldier, but be careful! If he does not want to join the empire, make him, use force! If he is nothing but a story, make an example of the scouts. There will be no lying to the Emporer!" Emporer Ublaz yelled at me.

Mission:
"Yes Sire," I replied.

Ublaz continued, "The scouts say that this creature lives in the sand dunes close to Salamandastron. Now which ship do you sail on?"

"The Centaur Sire," I said feebly.

"Good," Ublaz said, "I am making you temporary Captain of The Centaur. Take its crew along with the crew of The Nemesis, The Vainqueur, The Seaslayer, and The Sea wrath. That is about a score of good coursairs and searats. You better return with most of them, along with this new creature, or you know what I'll do to you; you have seen the other failures being fed to my monitor lizards, haven't you?"

"Yes Sire," I said like a little baby mouse. I knew Emporer Ublaz didn't want to talk anymore so I left to roundup my crew.

It was not hard to find my new crew, I just had to check all of the taverns. Luckily, since it was still early in the day, none of them were drunk.

At about noon, right after a hearty lunch, me and my new crew left aboard The Nemesis. Little did I know that at that very moment, a great battle was raging far across the seas in the sand dunes around the great mountain of Salamandastron...

The badger Lord of Salamandastron, Orlando the Axe, was in the heat of this very battle. He and the hares of Salamandastron were battling no great army, but only a few very odd looking vermin. No one was quite sure what this vermin was, they just knew it was trouble. The hares of Salamandastron were having a very difficult time fighting these vermin. There were originally ten of the vermin, but the hares had managed to cut that number in half. But with it, more than half of their hares had either been slain or injured to the extent where they could no longer battle. The hares wondered how only a couple vermin with funny looking weapons could kill over 250 fighting hares. Even Lord Orlando had been injured in many places, but he kept battling with the Bloodwrath raging.

The vermin's weapons were quite odd. It is a pole about the height of the vermin themselves, which really isn't that high. On one end of the pole is what appears to be several knives that each stick out at a different angle. On the other end is a mace without a chain. The vermin wield these weapons by holding them with both paws in the middle. They jab or slash with either end. Maybe it isn't the vermin themselves that are so strong, could it be the weapons...

My crew and I were making good time across the ocean, heading for the area near Salamandastron. The vermin aboard The Centaur were getting restless- many of them hadn't been out to sea for quite awhile.

As I just started imagining these new vermin were like, I heard the ship's spotter, Halfclaw, scream out, "LAND HO!!!"

A cheer immeadiately arose from the score of vermin onboard. I also heard Halfclaw yell, "Blaze you may want to see this! Come up here!"

I climbed up to the top of the mast where Halfclaw was perched. What I saw I couldn't believe. It was about 100 hares, along with a badger, fighting five vermin with strange looking weapons. Hundreds of hare corpses could be seen everywhere. The stench of death was in the air.

By this time, The Centaur was had already hid the shore. I yelled, "All vermin onto the sand and help those vermin slay those hares!!!"

My crew went at this with a valor. Swords, cutlasses, scimitars, dirks, daggers, sabres, and rapiers were drawn. By the time we reached the sand, there were only about threescore hares and the badger left, but another one of the vermin had been killed.

The remaining hares were quickly slain, but the badger was different. He just kept swinging his immense axe like a madbeast, he just wouldn't die. All of a sudden, about ten more of the strange vermin came hurtling over a dune. They slashed and jabbed at the badger, and eventually he went down. The vermin immeadiately became friendly, but no less intimidating. At closer inspection, the vermin appeared to be some sort of lizard. They had blood red scales and they wore strange looking brown jerkins. I approached the largest one, most likely the leader and said, "Greetings. I am Blaze the Evil from Sampetra. May I ask who you are?"

The lizard replied, "I am Incarner, leader of the Sand Dune Flame Lizardz, otherwize known as SDFL."

"I was wondering, I said, "if you would like to come to Sampetra with us. It has some sand dunes like this there. It is warm all year there. You would not face the harsh coastal winters that you have here."

Incarner replied, "Sampetra. Hmmm. No winterz. I guezz my lizardz and I will go with youz to this Sampetra."

"Good," I said, "we shall leave now. My crew will help you aboard your ship. By the way, what do you call that weapon?"

"We callz it an arktor. It has been used by all Sand Dune Flame Lizardz. We uze no other weaponz."

Surprisingly, the lizards seemed to like being on a ship. When we arrived at the Sampetra jetty, we were greeted by Emporer Ublaz himself.

"Good job Blaze," he told me.

"Thank you sire," I replied.

Yet another lizard species had been brought to Sampetra besides the great Monitor Lizards. The next question is who is stronger, Monitor Lizards or Flame Lizards...
