Extreme Ops (2002): 4/10

Poster (c) Paramount Pictures

When a movie has a name like Extreme Ops, you know you are in trouble. Worst of all, when your two biggest stars are Devon Sawa and Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, then you’re in deep trouble. At least they weren’t billed. With fake looking avalanche FX like
XXX, bad acting like XXX again, bad plot, like XXX again, but, unlike XXX, it didn’t have any fun to go along with it.

Before I continue, I would like to say that I did not want to see this movie. My brother got it from Netflix, and he left for a long trip, so I had to save it for him, and I watched it because I was bored. I would never, ever pay for this movie. I pity Paramount, who did have to pay for this movie to be made. They’ve produced great movies such as Forrest Gump, do we have to be reminded that people make mistakes by them?

It’s almost sad how much they try to have a plot. Two commercial directors take four extreme sporters up in the mountains to shoot a commercial, they ski and snowboard for an hour, then try to get down the mountain because they wind up the subject of terrorists. A plot this contrived deserves to be “TNT Original Drama”.

The funny part is, it’s impossible to hate completely. It takes itself in such a mocking tone, it knows that it’s a horrible movie, and proud of it. It knows it doesn’t have a plot and is really stupid, but was made anyway. I just can’t bring myself to hate it completely. Something I do hate about it, however, is the acting. To put it bluntly, everybody sucked. Sawa must be thinking this is his best role since Slackers, ditto with Wilson-Sampras with Billy Madison. Even though it was an Adam Sandler movie, she was better in it. There’s nothing else to say, just don’t see it.

Rated PG-13 for violence/peril, language and some nudity.
