I think this is my favourite diorama at the moment.  I used someone else's general idea and put in all my own stuff and arranged it as department store type surf shop.  I call this shop the GOLDEN WAVE SURF SHOP.
THE
SURF
SHOP
The first photograph shows the swimwear and beach necessities department - I mean one cannot go out into the sun these days without some sort of protection from the UV Rays.

The background for this diorama is gold colored wave patterned giftwrap.  The grid is TwillWeld bird wire, pinched from my Husband's stash (He breeds birds) that I sprayed a bright green and stabilised by pushing the bottom spikes into a strip of Balsa wood.  The Cabinet on the bottom on the left is also made from Balsa wood and the "glass" cabinet above it is one of those tool cases that assorted screws come in.  The shelf unit in the middle of this department is an original Barbie item.  The Sunglasses display unit is merely typing paper rolled up and glued to form a tube - I pushed map pins into the tube to hold up the glasses.  The whole thing stands on a Cake stand.  The mirror on top of this display is also a Barbie original from the 1983 Dream Store
Nearly all the swimsuits in this diorama are Barbie originals
The photograph on the right is the beach accessory department.  This is where you can buy the beach bag to carry the sunglasses, sun protection cream, towel, radio, book, bikini, sarong, beach shoes, etc, that can be bought at this surf shop.

The bags and accessories in this section are nearly all from generic brand doll sets, with the exception of a few items and all the shoes, which are Barbie originals.

The dress dummy is molded from a plastic dress form that you get in some of the outfit packages, filled with PollyFilla.  When the filler was dry, I removed it from the mold, drilled a hole in the bottom and stood it on a valve from an engine - as the valve stem was too short, I placed it on a deoderant can cap
The shoe rack was made in two parts.  The base being a Barbie original shelf display unit (I don't know what set it came from) and the top part was made from Balsa wood (you can gather I like using this wood) to fit over the plastic unit.  I slanted the shelving to look like shoe racks.  As I only pinned the shelf unit together, I can use it for something else when I get tired of this display.  The visor and hat rack is merely the end of a broom handle cut to size and placed on top of the cake stand
The picture on the left, shows the section where Barbie et al can hire things to play with on the beach - surf boards, skis, aqualungs, goggles and flippers, beach chairs, floaties, etc.  The counter in this section has a flip top which turns the table into a dressing table complete with make up etc.
