Another long-time interest of mine is writing.  In the summer of 1989, I began work on a summer project that became a published book entitled A Child's View of the Presidents.  As author and illustrator, I enjoyed researching the personal and political facts behind America's presidents and then drawing each president's portrait.  This experience allowed me to work with a publisher and printer, seeing the many stages of the process to publish a book.  In September, my family held an autograph party in Mullins attended by family and friends.  This is another memorable moment for me as a fourth grader.

During my years at Mullins High School, I began writing articles for the local paper, the Marion Star & Mullins Enterprise.  I wrote stories about everything from stories to the arts.  After the newspaper did not publish a story about the activities of our Student Council (I was serving as Student Body Vice President), I wrote a scathing letter to the editor.  My anger soon turned into a cooperative agreement between the high school and the newspaper when I founded the MHS Public Relations Committee.  Each week for two years we published an article about the good news and activities of the students of Mullins High School.

At Wofford, I began working for the college's Office of Communications during my second year.  Along with my public policy activities, I also wrote occasional stories for Wofford Today, the quarterly publication for Wofford alumni and friends.  During my senior year, I became interested in writing opinion-editorial (op-ed) pieces and published an article in The State newspaper of Columbia, SC entitled "President's advisors need freedom from testimony".

I continue to write letters to the editor from time to time and have gone back to writing stories for my local paper during my year in England.
