Katherine River Canoe Camp
In June, 2001, I again took my intrepid Yr 12 mob on a canoeing trip along the Katherine River.  Its not as spectacular as the Katherine Gorge but at least you're aloud to paddle down the rapids...
The Gang about to offload at Knott's Crossing near the Katherine Hospital:
Top - Courtney, Alistair and Aaron
Bottom - Jonea, Jared and me.
We're off on our picturesque journey down the Katherine - a fairly relaxing time.
A freshie that never made it - either that or he's trying to get a tan.  (I towed it to our next camp and tried to skin it but it was too rotten - it's still buried in the sand at Morro's farm.)
Aaron checks out a trap to catch the saltwater crocs.  They are removed from this section of the river (hopefully) so they don't eat us.  Some crocs are just too smart for these traps.  Note the bait at this end - a rotting pigs head.  Don't you just love the Territory!
Me negotiating some rapids at "Galloping Jacks", the banks are lined with heaps of Pandanus and Paperbark trees.
... and oh darn, I tipped over in an eddy, I'll just have to prove to the world that I can do an eskimo roll.
Morro's farm was a great resting spot after a hard day's paddling.
This was the last Outdoor Education camp I did in the Northern Territory.  I'll miss these guys.
