Depot Creek |
They had heaps of fun in the rapids! Of course, I had to try them all out first just to make sure it was safe (heh, heh). |

The track to Darwin crosses a dismally looking creek called Depot Creek, just south of Hayes Creek.. If you follow it down for a few kilometers it opens up into this beautiful little gorge. Only the locals seem to know about it so don't tell anyone. I took my small group of year 12's from Northern Territory Christian College there in May, 2001. We had heaps of fun spending half our time getting dunked by some rapid and the other half getting spear grass up our noses. |
The gang: Dorothy (mum), Jonea, Corinna, Greg, Aaron, Alistair, Tim and Jared. |
Getting thru the rocky scrub and flowing water... |
Our campsite on the creek bank. Heaps of mossies! A beautiful spot. Just a little further down we found some rock art. |
Its actually a little scary when you know you can't stop. |
<- Alistair's head as he was going under - cool. |
Alistair's shower time! |
Our only decent wound - a hip crashing into a rock - ouch. I advised them not to take the rapid and didn't do it myself. |

The trip home thru the dry spear grass. They say you can collect the seeds and grind them into flour but I think you'd need to be desparate. |
