How to make
Shock Socks
All plans and work done by SpeedyRC'03
First, get a strip of the material that you want.  It works best with waterproof cloth because the edges don't fray and you don't have to do extra stitching.  For the T/E-Maxx shocks, the width of the strip should be around 3 1/4" to 3 1/2".  Note that it is ok to make them a little bigger, but not a little smaller.  Socks for smaller shocks can be made out of a slightly thinner strip.  The length of the strip doesn't matter, unless you want to know how many socks you can make.
Start by folding the cloth over, so the inside of the fabric is on the outside.  It is like folding the piece hotdog style.  Use a sewing machine, and sew one striaght line down the side of the edge where the two ends meet.
After you sew it, make horizontal cuts about 3 5/8" along the strip.  This determines the height of the shock sock.  Smaller socks can be made shorter.  It should now look like the picture on the left.  The height of the sock is about 3 5/8".
Now, fold it inside out (shown right)
All that is required now is putting them on the shocks.  First, take the spring off of the shock, and slide it through the sock.  Fold the extra cloth over into the spring.  Then, put your spring back on, and your shock is now protected form dirt!!!
Tips:
If you are going to make eight socks for the T/E-Maxx, start out with a piece of fabric long enough to make eight shocks, or about 3 5/8" times 8, or a piece about 29" long.  30" inches would be better, because it gives you a little room for error.  The fabric piece would be the standard width, or about 3 1/4" to 3 1/2".
Basically, you can go to a fabric store, and ask for about 4" of fabric.  Most fabric stores sell things with rolls of about 60", so a piece about 4" by 60" would be reasonably priced and enough to nake 16 socks.  The waterproof fabric costs more, but saves you a lot of extra trouble in the end.  The one used in the example, was purchased for about $.83 for 6" by 60".
