Squad details - part 2 Colin Roxbrugh - With the 4th pick of the 2004 draft 2 for 22 picked up rookie phenom Colin Roxburgh. Scouting reports had Roxbrugh to go as the 3rd pick but when Akthars Aces looked else where 2 for 22 were quick to secure the rights to Roxburgh for the 2004 season. Its no coincidence that Roxburgh junior has ended up in the same team as older brother Andrew with the two looking to combine as a batting force as the season progresses. Look for Rox juniors numbers to be low early on in the season as he learns to adapt to the intensity of the big league, but it is hoped that he will come up big for the franchise by the time the playoffs come round. Signed to a 1 year rookie contract. Morgan Trowland - The Dennis Rodman of the 2 for 22 team, Trowland has all the ability in the world but a poor disciplinary record. Trowlands career came off the rails 2 seasons ago when a run of bad form, scratch that, a horrifically bad run of form (we're talking train wreck horrific here people) cost 2 for 22 any chance of taking the title. Trowland took it bad and announced his retirement soon after the season ended. What followed was a long term alcohol and drug problem which culminated in reports of Trowland throwing himself through a wall after another drunken episode as well as diving head first through a fence. It seems that Trowland has got past these issues however and is determined to work his way back into 2 for 22's starting rotation. His sharp pace with the ball would certainly be useful especially when working in tandem with other new ball bowler Matt Young. Trowland has a 1 season deal with 2 for 22 that has a clause based on drug/alcohol infringements. Rene Smith - Smith took a pay cut when signing a new deal with 2 for 22 in the offseason in order to keep the franchise under the salary cap and to give Smith another chance at getting a championship ring. In the past Smith and Ward have been taking turns at choking down the stretch with the memory of Smith failing to convert an 8 run lead into a victory when bowling the last over 3 seasons ago still looming over the Tahunanui native. 2 for 22's window of opportunity for winning a championship may be rapidly closing and as a result Smith has decided to take more responsibility by acquiring the captaincy from Ward in what critics say might be the journeyman's last season. Smith has a 1 season deal with 2 for 22. Samuel Ward - Ward relinquished the captaincy for the 2004 season after once again failing to lead his team to a title. Ward is an all-round player with the ability to bowl offspin as well as fast- medium seamers. His only weaknesses tend to be a lack of concentration at times coupled with his slow motion, running uphill into a gale force wind style of running. Ward always looks for quick singles but has a reputation for forgetting to tell the other batter. If Ward manages to smooth out these issues inconjunction with the removal of the burden of captaincy he will have a large impact on any title run 2 for 22 have. Will complete a 4 season contract this year. Matt Young - 2 for 22's go to guy with the ball, Young was the teams leading wicket taker last season and has a knack for coming up big down the strech with the ball. When on form he can be almost unplayable although he still needs to work on his batting if he wants to be labelled as a true all-rounder. Most of the blame for last seasons final loss was put on Ward but there were inside reports of team squabbling over a botched runout chance Young had in the closing overs. These issues have been put aside with the help of a friendly police officer and Young is looking to have a career year and perhaps break some of the records held by the Manglers infamous "shin splints" speedster. Young is in the second season of a three year deal.
