Firstly, I'd like to stop and look back on last friday. As usual, the Crackers were relaxed before the game but once it was realised that only 1 substitute would be available for rotation, players became nervous. Sam has already written a comprehensive article on the details of the game but I'd like to take a more technical angle. Fast breaks worked for us even though we tried to slow the game down in the second half due to fatigue. Also, Roxburgh was in the zone all game, those two back-to-back blocks had so much anger on them you could hear the egos of the Musashi players breaking into pieces right there and then. He also dominated rebounds and thankfully the rest of us contributed largely to that category too. Defense worked well, Jezza had steals galore and opened up little wee cans of whoopass whenever we were in trouble...if only those long distnce shots counted as threes. Anna needs to elarn not to rush her shots because she cannot get blocked by guys in this league but I'm sure she'll work on that and will continue to be a key player in our lineup (rookie of the year award swinging more her way after each match). There was a period in the second half where we lost the plot and they had their first lead on us (by 4 pts. i think) but luckily the layups were falling and a series of defensive rebounds by rox who distributed the rock to myself, Jezza and Sam for layups on the other end soon game us the lead again. Farmer Davis was awful with his travel violations but did manage a quick 10 pts. when they needed it. The key moment of the game was when we began to steal their inbounds and convert them to points. All in all, the best game we played yet and I hope we continue to play this well, playoffs coming our way! Second on the agenda are the rumours that after a such an emphatic win, the team may not really need Smith, our star player. I deny any of this because he is and always will be a cracker (though he's black. Finally, I was dissapointed to have to release Steve Hay this week. He openly admitted to J. King that he could not play for us for undisclosed reasons and a 3 game absence is an automatic contract-termination, though from our results it doesn't look like that affects us much at all, we have a deep bench and that's the most important thing. Scott Wilkinson failed to reply to the coach's call up on thursday night/friday morning and was seen drunk at the Dux before the game so I take this opportunity to say that he is suspended until further notice though I don't think I will terminate his contract until further discussion with the board or Hussle himself. Where's Jezza's TTT column, I'm eager to see his perspective on things...pardon my writing style but I have to sound like a coach. Coach P.
