Make a Pledge of Freedom
The National Society Children
of the American Revolution has created an annual signature project
designed to involve the youth of America in celebration U.S.
History.
A
Pledge To Participate
The C.A.R.
Signature Project for 2004 is very exciting! N.S.C.A.R., in
partnership with Freedom's Answer, encourages "A Pledge to
Participate" in the national election. Members who are "not old
enough to vote but old enough to lead" will enlist pledges from at
least 10 voters to participate in this year's national election in
an attempt to achieve a record turnout in voting. The members will
offer reminders on the day before the election to their pledges who
ask for one, and they may check up to see how many of their pledges
actually voted. They are NOT to ask HOW they voted -- as this is a
non-partisan activity -- just to encourage voter participation. In
the last national election, South Carolina only had 58.9 percent
eligible voter turnout. The goal is to help surpass that level of
participation.
In addition, C.A.R. members may become a school representative for
Freedom's Answer, engaging their schools in the nationwide project
with a patriotic school assembly and enlisting more students by
handing out the "Take Ten" pledge sheets. Societies also might man
voter registration tables at malls or other public places and picket
on Election Day to remind people to vote! Another suggestion is for
societies to have representatives (in Revolutionary era costumes
where possible or desired) at voting locations, thanking voters as
they depart to make a statement that their votes are important to
C.A.R. in light of what our Revolutionary ancestors did to ensure
their right to vote. Signs could say “Children of the American
Revolution have Freedom’s Answer: VOTE TODAY!” or “Children of the
American Revolution thank you for voting today.”
In addition to meeting our objective to "Love, uphold, and extend
the principles of American liberty and patriotism" (C.A.R.’s 6th
objective) and helping to fulfill our mission statement, the
Signature Project also presents a wonderful opportunity for public
relations as our organization will be featured alongside the most
significant youth organizations in the U.S. on the Freedom's Answer
website and will have a link to and from that website. Please visit
the website at www.Freedomsanswer.net. With endorsement letters from
the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Senate
Majority leader and the House Minority leaders, and the chairmen of
both Republican and Democratic National Committees, the school
assembly program created by the Signature Project will gain much
more exposure and support.
We hope many
societies, and many DAR, S.R., and SAR chapters will join N.S.C.A.R.
in our “Pledge to Participate.”
