Lake Perris State Recreation Area
Within an hours drive of LA and just 11 miles south of Riverside, Lake Perris is a state recreational area with excellent facilities offering the rare opportunity for convenient fresh water diving from shore.

The main diving area is adjacent Lot 1 and the large parking lot provides a perfect staging area to suit up and set up your gear. A grassy area serves as a buffer between the parking lot and the sandy beach. A roped off swim area 100 feet from the parking lot serves as the entry and exit point to the water. Facilities here also include showers, changing rooms, rest rooms, a small children's play area, shaded picnic area, BBQ's and pay phones.

Lake Perris has a few things you don't generally find in the ocean. Large bass can be easily observed swimming along side during the dive. Also not often found in the ocean are a series of oversized pipes that have been placed at the 45' depth to explore and swim through. Six of these 8 foot diameter pipes can be found by following your compass at a bearing of 150 degrees from the white ball float denoting the southern end of the swim area. Several of the pipes have rope or string connecting them together to aide divers in going from one pipe to the other.

In December 2001 we found visibility to range from 12 - 20 feet, though we are told that algae blooms tend to occur in the late spring and summer months. This offers divers an opportunity to go diving during the winter and spring months when ocean dive sites are often unavailable due to storm conditions.

In addition to diving, the lake serves as a state recreational facility offering swimming, fishing (shore, pier and boat), boating, sailing, water skiing,. Wildlife includes ducks and Canada Geese. Anglers can find rainbow trout, catfish and Alabama spotted bass. The area also offers opportunities for hikers, bikers and equestrians. Rock climbing is featured in an area south of the dam. There is a fully developed marina in addition to camp sites and RV spaces.
