Type of Beach: Sandy South to South east facing beach.
Facilities: None, Union 76 gas station is nearby.
Average Depth: 10 - 40'
Parking: Street Parking plentiful on the south side of the road. Access to the beach is via a ramp down to the sand (see picture).
Entry: There are a lot of beach ball size rocks in the surf line. Entry is best done between the large drain under the road and the first house (see picture above). Here you will find a sand channel with few rocks. The water gets to 10 feet quite quickly upon entry. This makes for a narrow surf zone with the waves breaking close to shore. It also means that the waves will tend to wall up and flop over. As always when beach diving, do not linger in the surf zone. See http://www.californiacoastline.org/cgi-bin/image.cgi?image=3884&mode=sequential&flags=0 for more aerial photographs of the beach to the left and right of the photographs above.
The Dive: Max depth is 40 feet. This is a good shallow water dive with most of the interesting stuff in 30 Feet of Sea Water (FSW) or less. In closer to the beach there are large quantities of rock and rock reefs. Kelp is also found here, presently in the 20-30 foot depth range. If you go out about 200 yards you will find depths of 40 feet and a whole lot of sand and not much else. This dive has included sharks, rays and other interesting creatures, and at other times just an opportunity to get wet.
On the nautical map below, Corral Beach is directly across from the SIGN marking. Note depth is in fathoms.
