Gather at: Top of steps leading to beach near restrooms
Type of Beach: Sandy
Average Depth: 20' - 110'
Parking: Metered parking 75 cents an hour. (Bring Quarters!)
Facilities: Phone, restrooms, public cold showers
Details: Located just the of Redondo Beach Pier, the
site features two drop offs, leading to the (deep) submarine canyon.
This
is not your typical dive. Various (big) fish have been spotted here
coming
up from the deep water. Sea pens and other critters are also common.
Squid
lay their eggs along the edges of the canyon in January creating shag
carpeting
effect of white "cartoon condom" looking egg casings. The
pier and previous piers have made occaional finds of old bottles and pilings
a happening. Here's
another desciption of the site.
