The Sandy Hook Child Care Center has been in operation since November 3, 1980, when a group of parents and employees at Sandy Hook got together to create a safe stimulating atmosphere in which children could grow and learn while their parents worked, attended classes, or pursued other interests.

Our goal was and continues to be to establish a place that offers affordable and quality child care and daycare to parents employed on Sandy Hook and adjacent communities in NJ.  The Center is a non-profit organization fully licensed for 15 children per day by the State of New Jersey.

The Center offers the following to families:

  • flexible schedules: full time, part time, drop in, full day, and half day programs are available.
  • not just a day care: With a theme-based curriculum, kids participate in learning games and preschool activities based on their age and abilities.
  • activities: Among many other activities, we have stories, music time, learning games (such as letters and numbers), arts and crafts, free play, outside play, and environmental education for all ages.
  • diversity of  ages: The mix of ages (3 months to 6 years) allows the children to learn to socialize with all ages….the older children learn to nurture and be “helpers” and the younger children learn by watching the big kids.
  • small class size: We have only a maximum of 15 children each day.  Our child to teacher ratio is much lower than state requirements, allowing personal attention, nurturing, and interaction for every child.
  • dedicated staff: Our staff is dedicated and long term.  All the teachers know each child as an individual and, because of the Center’s small size, stay with them from infant until they leave the Center, providing a stable environment for the children.
  • parental involvement: The Center is run by a Board of Directors made up of the parents of the children in the Center.  Parents directly have a say in what children are learning and how the Center is run.
  • natural and healthy environment: The Center is located in the middle of a National Seashore, providing a perfect setting for teaching children about the environment.
  • affordable, high quality child care: Because we are nonprofit, the children are the number 1 priority, not the bottom line.
