with him and Adam Deadmarsh fighting to a draw. That wouldn't be the only time Cooke lost his cool, more on that later. To the scoring now. The Sharks led right from the start of the game, with Marty St. Louis scoring 41 seconds into the game. Then some of the fire works happened. The Sharks seemed to shrug that off though with a goal my Bouwmeester, but 22 seconds later the Islanders closed the gap to 1. The second period was bitter-sweet for the Sharks who put the game out of reach on two goals by Brad Richards. But the period saw Matthew Lombardi and Todd Marchant go down with injuries. Lombardi left with and undisclosed injury and will be a game time decision against Vancouver. While Marchant was forced out of the game with a sore back and is listed as day-to-day. So the 2nd period ends with the Sharks in control 4-1. The 3rd period started off slow but soon picked up when Matt Cooke lost his cool with Jamie Lanenbrunner this time. This resulted in the ejection of Cooke. After teh game the league handed him a 2 game suspension. After that the Sharks played some more inspired hockey chasing Tommy Salo from the net on Steven Reinprecht's 6th goal of the season. David Aebischer came on in reief but it didn't help much when Eric Daxe tickeld the twine in the last minute of the game. Belfour was outstanding again in the net who stopped 33 shots on the evening. Tough guy Krzysztof Oliwa had this to say after the game, "Well sometimes, in games like these you have to beat a two teams out there, not only you opponents, but the guys wearing the stripes as well. Man they were brutal tonight. But we over came that and came out with 2 points, and thats what our goal is every game." The Sharks now travel to Vancouver with some bumps and bruses, but on a high from there last win. Expect Jocelyn Thibault to get his first start of the season, giving Belfour the night off who has been sensational to start this season off. Also expect Kyle Wellwood and Boyd Devereaux to get back into the line-up while the injury bug has taken a bite out of the Sharks. |
