The Sarai programme of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, is committed to developing a public architecture for creating knowledge and creative communities. In keeping with this commitment, we seek to develop a community of scholars, writers and practitioners who are motivated to make the materials and outcome of research available for public access and circulation, with the understanding that an imaginative engagement with social experience will be best fostered by a sharing of information, ideas, research materials and resources. We see our system of independent fellowships as a resource that will be built on by many people working whether individually or in groups, but with a sense of collective endeavor and purpose

Leveraging and optmising existing domains of ICT4D and creating new niche areas of deployment is the need of the hour. The World Summit on Information Society has revealed the need to introspect in a fruitful attempt to cross link ideas. Given the hectic pace at which civil societies are progressing by embracing technology, it is imperative and important to ensure that the digital divide is bridged through an inclusive partnership.
Todays information society requires that even the smallest businesses have some level of ICT use integrated in their operations. An entrepreneur who uses ICT appropriately and effectively can run a more efficient business and reach markets that were previously unimaginable, the organisation [bridges.org] says.
The aim of this study includes :
[i] an attempt to understand the publicly available roadmaps for the L10n projects,
[ii] analyse the project management and release management protocols in place,
[iii] an attempt to analyse ICT4D efforts based on these localised GNU/Linux implementation and releases and
[iv] an effort to locate and identify possible 'index cases' and test bench areas leading to a self-sustaining implementation
I wish to :
[i] investigate existing domains of ICT4D through interaction with the shared networks in order to understand the processes
[ii] analyse (and help in analysing) new 'niche' systems where ICT4D implementations can be carried out
This section will thus contain the results of such research and analysis in human readable format (and the same will be made available for download)
