In the Meditation of
Swami Sharvananda

Jhargram, Midnapur, India

"Have love for everyone, no one is other than you."

Sri Ramakrishna

"I am the mother of the wicked, as I am the mother of the virtuous. Never fear.
Whenever you are in distress, say to yourself, 'I have a mother.'"

Ma Sarada

"Realize yourself. That is all there is to do. Know yourself as you are: Infinite spirit.
That is practical religion. Everything else is impractical, for everything else will vanish."

Swami Vivekananda

"Women will work out their destinies—much better, too, than men can ever do for them.
All the mischief to women has come because men undertook to shape the destiny of women."

Swami Vivekananda

Sri Ramakrishna Saradapeeth Kanya Gurukul situated at Jhargram, West Midnapur on the border between West Bengal and Jharkhand is a monastic order exclusively designed for women. A superb modern highway and a train service connect it to Kolkata some 190 km away. The seed for the order was planted directly by Swami Vivekananda into the young mind of Swami Sharvananda when he invited the latter to share his vision of empowerment of women. Swami Sharvananda, in early nineteen fifties, with a few dedicated women, founded the ashram where it presently stands. The ashram, under its wings, today runs a girl's school providing quality education up to higher-secondary level. The school provides, with a slate of finest teachers, an enriched learning environment embracing both traditional arts and science curricula and the new computer application discipline.
