so what's so great about them?
radiohead has got to be considered one of the greatest bands today.  the five of them started in the early 80s after meeting at abingdon school in oxford.  thom yorke was singing in the punk band TNT, when he asked his  TNT bass player, colin greenwood to join in along with ed o'brian in a new band.  phil selway came in as drummer a year later.  colin's brother, jonny greenwood, constantly hung out with them, consistently asking to be in the band.  eventually, he was allowed to play and became lead guitarist.  the band "on a friday", named after their friday rehearsals, debuted at jericho's tavern in 1987.  in 1991, they recorded their first demo tape which eventually leading them to sign with EMI.  they later changed their name to radiohead after talking head's song "radio head".

may of 1992, drill ep was released, but after only reaching to #101, they remained on tour as a support band.  creep ep was released later that year, but the big break did not come until 1993 when "creep" entered the billboard modern rock track chart at #2.  their first album, pablo honey, never took off.  in march of 1995, their second album, the bends, was released giving off a much better reception than the first.  slowly, the fans begin to grow.  by june of 1997, radiohead released ok computer which shot up the charts and camped out for 71 consecutive weeks on the uk chart.  radiohead became superstars and won numerous awards as ok computer sold to platinum.  after ok computer, things quieted down for radiohead.  the follow-up album was difficult to make with long recording sessions, and they somewhat had to re-define their roles in the band.  in october 2000, radiohead released kid a, shooting directly to number one in spite of the fact that not a single song was released and ordinary promotion schemes were not used.  kid a was completely different from ok computer.  they experimented with different sounds and found lots of inspiration.  shortly after, in june of 2001, amnesiac was released, which was the second half of their recording sessions continuted from kid a.
