An eventful Drive home

Late one evening as I raced home from work and anticipating a nice meal and a good night’s rest, I heard a bang behind me and a grinding noise, pulling into a dark lay by the cause of the bang was clear. My Back tyre had punctured and was very flat.

No danger of carrying on to my home some 20miles away. So with the evening breeze swirling around my skirt I proceeded to lift the spare wheel from the car and assembled the jack, By now my Tights had run and my hair was all over the place and my new shoes were covered in dirt. Surely it couldn't get much worse, but as I wrestled the old wheel off the car and slipped the spare on I became aware of an audience. An odd scruffy looking man of indeterminate age stood a little way off staring at me with a puzzled gaze. Why are you out so late my little Robin he said and smiled, slightly unnerved by his appearance I smiled back and carried on tightening the wheel nuts He came over and taking the damaged wheel lifted it into the boot (trunk) of the car. I quickly put the tools in the car when he turned to me and said, "you are too strong for a woman, how come you can change a tyre?

I thanked him for his help, muttering I am going to be late, I must go, Why rush he said take your time, are you scared?
As I quickly got into the car and shut the door praying the lock would activate as l hit the knob with my elbow .It worked and as I started the engine he tapped the window, You’re not right you aren't, I think you are one of them. I didn't hang around to find out what "one of them" was so I drove away as fast as I could and by the time I reached home I was shaking all over, and thanking my lucky stars I had not been attacked Never again did I take that route home, but his face haunted me for weeks afterwards.
